Grandma Helen

Grandma is having a tough time right now. She has been slipping further and further from us for quite some time. She has been refusing to eat which has completely depleted her level of potassium. She was found collapsed on her apartment floor and then rushed to the hospital. She was later moved to the nursing home under hospice care. Although she is refusing to eat Tim and Bryan did a pretty good job of convincing her to eat some Twix and some Butterfinger. Grandma was always a softie for the sweets. She was barely coherent when we first visited her in hospice. She was unable to read the 500 notes Tim kept writing her (Thanks Tim :) ) . But when I left for a moment she turned to Tim, Bryan and Melissa and told each of them one by one that she loved them. We asked her how old she was and she simply stated, "Fourty Six". Grandma could hardly make out a word we said, but she still cracked a few jokes. It made us all laugh. Tim and I took the kids to go see her on Monday night. She was actually doing much better. She understood what was being said and knew who we were. Grandpa was with us. I think that really calmed her nerves. I love her so much. I want her to be able to stop being miserable. I want her to be able to move on and progress to a place where she can run and hear, and be silly and laugh. I think that if she is waiting for something, that she is more likely waiting for someone. I think she is waiting to see Bonnie. Bonnie will be here soon. I believe we all need closure. My Grandma waited weeks before passing on just to say good bye to her son. Maybe this is also the case here. :)
